Beginning
Since 1985, Duvet Comfort Inc. has been manufacturing beautiful and higher end Down Outerwear.
By 1992, the in-house label Canadian Spirit Downwear was born - a fun and fashionable quality down coat for the fashion-conscious woman who loves to be about town.
This label was followed shortly thereafter by an even more luxury line called Johnny Yiu, the founder's namesake (but that's another story...)

An Idea
Throughout the years of success that Canadian Spirit enjoyed, it soon became apparent that one constant complaint that we heard from our customers was that no one was addressing outerwear for the pregnant woman. For the woman who was used to being fashionably dressed and warm all at the same time, it was criminal that she should have to suffer a winter of being both cold and frumpy, either wrapped in a shawl and freezing, or wearing her man's Big-Oversized-Jacket.
At a time when this woman should be basking in the glow of pregnancy and impending motherhood, the very least expectation should be that she is kept warm and comfortable. Always up for a challenge, Johnny decided to incorporate all of these additional needs into the regular Canadian Spirit coat.

At Last!
And so, after a laborious 9 months of brainstorming and time at the drawing board, the M coat was birthed in spring of 2008. The long awaited arrival of this darling, to be adored and cherished by all, captured the hearts and imagination of all those around; Maternity (Mom's to be), Mama (Baby-wearing Mom's), Myself (back to a regular fitting jacket - what a bonus!), press and industry all embraced the introduction of the M Coat into the maternity world.
In its first season, the M Coat was featured at the International Babywearing Conference in Rigby, Idaho; on eTalk; CityLine; Breakfast Television; and Parent Magazine, just to mention a few, and also earned a prestigious Award of Merit by ACCE (sponsored by the Ministry of Small Business).
Fashionable yet Functional - Absolutely Ingenious!
